Celebrating the beginning of summer and the art of great African-American poets. Juneteenth National Independence Day is one of the oldest commemorations of the abolition of slavery in the United States. Poet in residence David P. Kozinski will read and talk a bit about summer poems and works by Gwendolyn Brooks, Lucille Clifton, Paul Laurence Dunbar, Nikki Giovanni and Langston Hughes, among others, along with a few of his own. Pre-registration is recommended but there’s usually room for walk-ins.
