Calling all treasure hunters, upcycling aficionados, fashionistas, and bargain-hunting parents looking for a great deal! Whale of a Sale – Delaware’s Largest Garage Sale – returns in November with over 13,000 square feet of shopping space. The much-anticipated sale has been a time-honored fundraiser for the Junior League of Wilmington (JLW) since 1980.
The 2025 Whale of a Sale will feature a boutique area, with an array of high-quality and designer items including brand-new clothing, accessories, and formalwear contributed by local businesses. This year, we’ll also showcase a significant selection of bridal gowns, some new with tags! The always-popular small furniture section (housed in the former Christopher and Banks space) will include gently-used pieces. Fabulous finds can also be found in the holiday department, children’s clothing, equipment and sporting goods, housewares, books, art, and more!
Pricing on children’s clothing ranges from $1 to $6, while most men’s and women’s clothing is priced $2 to $15. All wedding gowns will be $25 each. The majority of home and holiday decor will range from $1 to $10. Some higher-end items may be priced differently. All proceeds benefit the Junior League of Wilmington and its mission of training women to be leaders in the community.
Generations of Whale of a Sale shoppers eagerly anticipate the Sale, and thousands are expected to attend this year. The last Whale of a Sale was in Fall 2023 and was the first inperson sale since the Covid pandemic. Despite the long hiatus, over 1,000 Whale shoppers returned for the 2023 sale and are expected to return again for this cherished fundraiser.
Proceeds benefit the JLW’s mission of developing the leadership potential of its members and the League’s current community focus, Stand Up. Period. This initiative focuses on menstrual equity in Delaware and aims to ensure affordable access to period supplies.
