Description
The Delaware Center for Horticulture is excited to announce its new spring fundraiser, Dig It: a Rare Plant Auction® event, which will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2024.
With the success of our 40th and Final Rare Plant Auction®, held at DCH in 2022, they are bringing back a similar event with a focus on its mission, programs, and work they do in the community. Trees, shrubs, perennials, tropicals, houseplants, and non-plant items will be the focus at the auction, with an additional selection of plants dug from local horticulturists’ gardens. The event will also feature specialty food stations and an open bar. Proceeds from this event support DCH’s core program areas that span workforce development to public education and community outreach. Branches to Chances®: A Return to Work Program and the Delaware River Climate Corps (DRCC)trains the unemployed and underemployed for careers in horticulture. This training includes a focus on urban and suburban ecology; exposure to productive landscapes through participation in DCH’s E. D. Robinson Urban Farm, and through Community Forestry activities. As part of the hands-on training, which accompanies a classroom curriculum, participants are engaged in planting hundreds of trees each year, learning about tree care and maintenance, while gaining knowledge about green infrastructure, urban agriculture and native plants. DCH’s public programs and community outreach additionally provides a variety of workshops, presentations, trainings, and activities, both at DCH as well as within our local communities, to inspire people of all backgrounds to learn about, engage with and share a love of our natural world.
