Description

Celebrate Earth and Arbor Day with Wilmington’s Public Works Department! Saturday, April 22 is the Citywide Clean-Up from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Mayor Mike Purzycki invites you to celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day 2023 at an event sponsored by the Department of Public Works at Cool Spring Reservoir, 11th and Franklin streets, on Friday, April 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This FREE event is open to everyone and will feature food from Wilmington Kitchen Collective, music by “DJ Tim Dogg,” an Earth Day original rap song performed by Cultural Restoration Project, Inc., and 4th grade students from Kuumba Academy Charter School, kids education activities, crafts and game, and more than two dozen exhibitors and sustainable vendors.
The Mayor also encouraged residents, community groups, and businesses around the City to participate in Wilmington’s annual Community Clean-Up Day on Saturday, April 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The Citywide clean-up is one element of Wilmington’s Beautiful City campaign, launched in 2017 to keep the City clean. The deadline to register for the community clean-up is Friday April 14, so register today!
To register, email [email protected].
Once you are registered, the City’s Constituent Services Office will contact you and, if needed, provide items such as trash bags, yard waste bags, gloves, and trash pickers.
If you have questions, please call 3-1-1 (within City limits).
“City neighborhoods and public spaces are Wilmington’s greatest assets,” said Mayor Purzycki, “and keeping them clean and attractive is a sign of respect for City residents and where they live. I look forward to this day each year when people come together to demonstrate their community pride by producing a cleaner and more beautiful City. The pairing of our Community Clean-Up Day with the celebration of Earth Day and Arbor Day makes perfect sense given that a consistent appreciation for our individual neighborhoods and for the planet that holds us together often go hand-in-hand.”
“My Administration is heavily invested in improving and strengthening Wilmington’s neighborhoods,” the Mayor continued, “and our Beautiful City initiative is a key component of this effort. We remain committed to seeing that Wilmington is kept clean and safe throughout the year, and I am grateful to everyone who makes these events a huge success each April, especially the dedicated employees of the Mayor’s Office of Constituent Services, and the Departments of Public Works and Parks and Recreation.”
