Join civil rights activist Bebe Coker as she speaks to the history of legalized racism in Delaware. A condensed version of the Legalized Racism courses she has taught at Delaware State and UD, this presentation aims to building understanding about our history, our present, and paths forward for the future.
Bebe Coker has been a lifelong advocate for education and racial justice. She has been described as “the Rosa Parks of education in Wilmington,” an agitator, encourager, rule breaker and waymaker. For her tremendous devotion to “working for the world the way it’s supposed to be,” Bebe has been recognized with prestigious honors including the Order of the First State, the Jefferson Award, the John Taylor Education Award, the University of Delaware Medal of Distinction, the Kandler Award, and induction into the DE Women’s Hall of Fame. Bebe regularly teaches classes on Black History in the University of Delaware’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) program in Wilmington.
