Description

POPLAR HALL presents: “THE REVISIONISTS: A HAUNTED VICTORIAN WALK.” (with partnership from Rockwood Museum & New Castle County)

The period between the 1880s to the 1920s is often considered the Golden Age of the Ghost Story. This tradition will be brought back to life and will cast a chilling shadow on the Wilmington Gothic mansion, its gardens and walkways. In the briskness of October, the museum grounds may just take on an entirely different character after dark! Get ready to be immersed into a mobile theatrical experience and history lesson with a dark dollop of the Victorian Macabre.

The haunted story walk is a guided tour that lasts about 90 minutes, through the gardens, down the dark walkways lined with foliage and historic trees and along the darkest parts of the Shipley mansion property. This will be true Victorian traditional storytelling at its finest, from an era rife with supernatural themes and practices, including mourning, spiritualism and funeral traditions. Delawarian, Gregory Shelton (Poplar Hall Founder and Event Producer), says “Ghost stories were actually a fireside Christmas tradition in the mid to late 1800’s. We’re bringing the true ghost story back in its original form to the chilly Fall months, where it belongs”

The haunted walk will be led by a character known as a “Revisionist,” a person that retains the innate ability to speak with the unliving, to hear what sent them, and at times help to reveal and rewrite their circumstances and untimely demise. Revisionists will lead each tour by lamplight, tell the never-before-heard stories and protect event-goers from the apparitions that find their way back from the spirit world. Viewers will hear six handwritten tales mixed with vignettes with ghosts from the mansion’s dark past as the night unfolds. If there is a place that’s truly haunted, it’s the Rockwood property…the perfect setting.

Shelton says “I’m so pleased to have such a wonderfully dark and skilled team for this production. April Lindsey (Writer,) Lisa Panzer (Director) Robert Cox (Lighting) and some of the areas best actors, to create a Halloween event as if M.R James or Edgar Allen Poe wrote short stories for Downton Abbey.”

At the main entrance to the Rockwood Museum, event-goers begin their nighttime excursion. All attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite period Victorian & Gothic style garb to match the actors, but we warn you…high heels don’t do well when you see your first bone-chilling apparition mocking your every step!!!

Take the tour and see the veil between our world and the spirit world pulled back a bit more….If you love dark story-telling, Halloween and History, this event is surely for you!

Tickets are available at: www.poplarhall.us ($28 for adults.) Private group tours are also available. This performance is a very dark representation of Victorian short story subject matter, with scary moments. Therefore the minimum age for entry is 13 years old and above.

Don’t miss this all original production tour in WILMINGTON DELAWARE’S ROCKWOOD MUSEUM.
