The City of Wilmington is proud to announce a family-friendly Independence Day Celebration to be held on Saturday, July 5, 2025, from noon to 3:00 p.m. in Rodney Square. This free event will bring residents and visitors together for an afternoon of entertainment, culture, and community connection in the heart of Downtown Wilmington.
The celebration will feature live music by Lower Case Blues, Richard Raw & Word Warrior Band, and What The Funk, cultural demonstrations and performances, kids games and attractions, and a diverse selection of food from local food trucks and participating downtown restaurants.
This is a non-alcohol event designed to foster a safe, festive atmosphere for all ages. The City has partnered with Event Allies to coordinate the event.
Mayor John Carney will also use the occasion to sign an executive order launching the Wilmington 250th Celebration, a yearlong initiative leading up to the Nation’s 250th birthday in 2026. Wilmington’s commemoration will align with Delaware 250, the statewide initiative that aims to reflect on and uplift the full and diverse story of Delaware’s contributions to the American story.
“This celebration is about honoring our city’s vibrant history and diverse communities in a way that is fun, inclusive, and meaningful,” said Mayor Carney. “And as we look ahead to America’s 250th birthday, we are proud to begin our Wilmington 250th celebration right here in Rodney Square.”
