Description

Imogen, the daughter of King Cymbeline of Britain, deals with an evil stepmother and a deadly potion, before befriending mysterious men in a woodland cave. Sound familiar, Snow White fans? Love betrayed and a Roman invasion are thrown into the mix of this beautiful, funny, and chaotic saga.

The Delaware Shakespeare Community Tour is an annual three-week tour of a Shakespeare play that aims to reach the full spectrum of humanity in our state by travelling to non-traditional locations such as homeless shelters, community centers, and detention facilities, as well as in geographic areas not normally served by the stateโ€™s larger arts organizations.

The 2023 Tour will be Shakespeareโ€™s fairy tale-like saga, Cymbeline. A young princess deals with unending wild forces โ€“ including an evil stepmother, a deadly potion, mysterious woodsmen, love betrayed, and a Roman invasion! This beautiful and funny play honors the chaos we all find in our lives, while sharing a miraculously hopeful ending.

The Community Tour plays in non-theatrical venues such as multipurpose rooms, cafeterias, and gymnasiums. The production values are scaled for those spaces, with live music, minimal sets, and whatever lighting is available. Audience sizes vary based on location and capacity from about 40-100 people. The purposefully small audience is seated directly around the performance area on all four sides, creating an up-close and immediate experience. The production utilizes the talents of six seasoned, professional, diverse performers and a live musician.

For the 2023 Community Tour, Delaware Shakespeare is planning thirteen (13) performances hosted by partner organizations. Performances are offered at no charge to these venues.

In addition to the performance, each partner organization has the option to receive a pre-show workshop delivered by a Delaware Shakespeare teaching artist in the week prior to the performance date.

Partner venues are asked to provide the performance space and audience chairs, and commit to recruiting an audience of at least 40 people. Cymbeline tour performances will be scheduled for October 4-20, 2022. The production will last approximately 2 hours.
