Description
The Sleeping Beauty of Savoy is a delightful panto with libretto by D’Oyly Carte Opera Company principals Cynthia Morey and John Fryatt. The characters are derived from the Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, and 33 G&S musical favorites are included in this light-hearted retelling of the Sleeping Beauty story, intended for both adults and kids.
Mad Meg, an evil fairy, jealous of the princess, places a curse on her. Good fairies and her family and friends do their best to protect her, but only true love’s kiss can break the spell and release her from an enchanted sleep.
What is a panto? It’s a whole family holiday tradition, particularly popular in Great Britain, where audience participation is strongly encouraged! Our audience members will be encouraged to boo and hiss villains, keep an eye out for shady characters on-stage, and take part in on-stage arguments. Bad puns and light-hearted social comedy — count on it! Expect a top-notch, but not particularly serious, performance.
