Description

“A party without cake is really just a meeting.” -Julia Child

We couldn’t agree more, which is exactly why we’re baking, braising, and pouring our way through a celebration on August 22.

This one’s for the women who taught America how to cook — and, in doing so, taught America how to gather. Julia Child, who put French technique on our television sets and cake on our tables. Alice Waters, who reminded us that a perfect tomato needs almost nothing done to it. Judy Rodgers’ harvest tables shaped a generation of California/farm-to-table cooking. Erin French, cooking out of a tiny mill in Maine and drawing the whole country to her table anyway. Martha Stewart, who made “elegant” and “attainable” the same word. Ina Garten, who convinced a generation that “store-bought is fine” — and then fed us better than most restaurants anyway.

It’s no accident we’re doing this in August. This is the month we remember the passage of the 19th Amendment, and it holds Women’s Equality Day on the 26th. And where, exactly, would the world of hospitality be without women? Somewhere far less delicious, far less gracious, and — frankly — far less fun. This dinner is our small continuation of the America 250 celebration: honoring the people who built the tables we still gather around today.

Six courses. Rustic French, farm-fresh, nothing overworked.

Come hungry. Come ready to raise a glass to the women who made sure this country always had a seat — and a plate — ready for everyone. Vegetarian option available upon request — please let us know when making your reservation.
