Description

The 4th Annual Dirty Popcorn Black Film Festival is presented by Jet Phynx and hosted and sponsored by the Delaware Art Museum. The film festival will be a two-day experience August 9 & 10.

This immersive experience celebrates “The Evolution of the Camera”, a tribute to how film and photography have transformed the way we see and share stories. Enjoy a showcase of captivating short films from some of the most talented creators, unforgettable musical moments, a cash bar featuring mimosas, and delicious food to feed the soul. Come ready to walk and pose on the red carpet! The festival honors filmmakers of color from Delaware and beyond, with a mission to preserve and uplift local Black cinema. So grab your popcorn and join us for a day of history, creativity, and celebration!

“The Evolution of the Camera”

We’re excited to announce that this year’s festival will be a full two-day experience, each day offering something unique for filmmakers and film lovers alike. Today, nearly everyone carries a camera in their pocket. We are all walking filmmakers! The phone is the new camera. This year, we’re celebrating how far the camera has come—from the earliest film cameras to today’s powerful smartphone lenses We’re calling on all creators to submit their work. Whether you’re shooting cinematic short films or producing content on your iPhone, we want to see your vision!

Day 2 is all about films.

This will be a dedicated open film run of all submitted films. Come relax for a theater-style experience where attendees can come and enjoy back-to-back screenings. A full showrunner schedule will guide the day, listing all films and their time slots so guests can choose when to come, stay, or return. Grab popcorn, a drink and watch!

The mission of the festival is to provide a platform and venue to discover and celebrate filmmakers of color from Delaware and the surrounding region while also providing a means of preserving local black filmmakers.
