Today, There’s Love on Market

Theres Love IN Wilmington

Love makes you feel all warm inside.

Fifty-three degrees on Market can help a bit too.

Today was a day to be out of the office, whether you were with your sweetie or not. Legs were stretched. Some hearts were melted. Others remained mostly intact – is it a Wednesday, after all. Hardly the ideal day of the week for foolish romantic gestures. We prefer the weekends.

And yet, it’s Valentine’s Day. Much like love, it rarely waits to arrive at the most convenient time.

There’s so much to love on Market:

Some romantic friends come with benefits, and on days like today, many of those benefits could be found behind the counter at Govatos Chocolates. Yes, the heart-shaped box has its place, but he’ll love something simple too – as long as you remember whether he’s a milk chocolate guy or a dark chocolate guy. Caramels? Always caramels, either way.

Down the street, lovers in love are sitting down at La Fia to a prix fixe menu of Hamachi ceviche and foie gras mousse, grilled octopus and scallops carbonara and roasted rack of lamb, and the salted caramel pudding that will send them off to continue the celebration somewhere a little more private. (Miss out on a reservation? The special menu is available all week long.)

Hear a pop from across the street? That’s the Champagne, as Merchant Bar marks the day with a V-Day cocktail party. Or are you drawn to the romantic lure of the past and the grandeur of the Green Room at the Hotel du Pont? Sean Reilly is inside, singing Sinatra at dinner.

Wherever your travels take you, keep your eyes open for our first NewMarketWilm Lookbook of 2018, just hitting the streets and full of people we’ve met, lattes we’ve loved and inspiration for the new year.

Tomorrow, candy will go on sale at the Walgreens. Tomorrow, we’ll remember that there’s a “frozen mix” in the long-term forecast. Tomorrow, flowers will fade. Flowers always fade.

But today, there’s love on Market. And love lasts longer than flowers.
