The Magic Flute – Dana Newcomb, oboe
Let’s dive into the exuberant and profound music of this fairy tale opera written in the last months of Mozart’s life. What makes the music so iconic and recognizable? This opera is the perfect example of Mozart’s compositional virtuosity, and through various video clips we will explore the juxtaposition of musical styles and quirky story line, as well as the influence of Mozart’s life on the writing of one of the greatest operas in history.

How is it that music can capture the sounds and sensations of the natural world? Whether the beauty of moonlight through Debussy’s ‘Clair de Lune’ or the colorful brilliant splashes of Liszt’s ‘Au bord d’un source’ (by the stream), we will explore how composers are able to paint nature through music!
