Description

Grow your garden and save money with practical propagation techniques using seeds and cuttings. Review the ethics of wild-collected seed and learn the basics of seed biology, germination, and storage. Study the principles of vegetative plant reproduction, learn when and how to take cuttings, and practice proper techniques for preparing and rooting them. Take samples home from this hands-on workshop. Please bring hand pruners.

This program takes place in-person at Mt. Cuba Center Two Saturdays: 5/10 and 5/17.

About the Instructor:
James Rockwell is the Greenhouse & Nursery Manager at Mt. Cuba Center. He earned a BS in Environmental Horticulture and Agribusiness Management from Virginia Tech. James oversees our conservation research greenhouse where he facilitates propagation work for our gardens, external collaborators, and industry partners. Prior to joining Mt. Cuba Center in 2017, James gained experience at Longwood Gardens. His favorite aspect of working in the greenhouse is observing plants in all life stages, from seed to mature plants.

Claire Zuidervliet is the Owner-Grower at Octoraro Native Plant Nursery, a wholesaler of native, seed-grown, straight species trees and shrubs. She is passionate about propagating and growing exceptional native trees and shrubs for both restoration and beauty in the Mid-Atlantic region. She earned her bachelorโ€™s degree in Floriculture and Nursery Production with a business minor from Delaware Valley University.
