Description
Join Brandywine Creek State Park for a MLK Day of Service project removing invasive vines from our fencing! The stone walls throughout the park were originally constructed during the 19th century when the land was used for agriculture and grazing.
Today, however, invasive vines such as oriental bittersweet climb the walls and other fencing throughout the park and can cause significant damage if left alone. Moreso, invasive species outcompete native species for resources and displace native plants.
Experience, tools (loppers and pruners), and gloves are welcome, but not required. If you’re interested, we’d love to have you there!
As an invasive vine control volunteer, you can expect to:
- Learn some of the basics of invasive vine removal
- Be a little more connected to your favorite park
- Give back while enjoying the outdoors
Parking:
- Parking is available at the Brandywine Creek State Park Maintenance Shed
- Follow directions to 338 Shop Rd, Wilmington, DE 19803
- Parking is free for the season until March 1st
Meeting place: Brandywine Creek State Park Maintenance Shed Complex
