Description

This informal “cottage style” garden surrounds a beautiful home built around 1882. Margot and Tom Williams, the third owners, acquired the home and surrounding gardens in 2005. Although the previous owner was once an avid gardener, the garden was not in its best shape. The entire garden and yard were eventually reconstructed, except for the large oak tree on the side, the privet hedge and some perennials from the original garden which were preserved and moved.
The overall design of the gardens, created by the owners, has evolved over the past 16 years. There is an emphasis on primarily native plants with an extensive use of perennials that create all season interest. The patio was completed in 2010, the attached pond in 2013 and the shed installed in 2015.
The pond, as a central feature to the back patio, has a beautiful cascading waterfall, plenty of fish, and is planted with complimenting water loving plants, including water lilies. The charming shed is covered with climbing roses, giving an authentic cottage garden feel. Echinacea, stokesia, milkweed, beebalm, and clematis add pops of color throughout. Margot and Tom are committed to a chemical free garden and believe everyone can achieve a beautiful garden while supporting the environment as well.
