Description
The coveted opening screening slot at the Diamond State Film Festival was awarded to “Black Uniform,” a newly completed documentary featuring the voices of 12 Black veterans, serving within the ranges of WWII to present day, speaking on why they enlisted and what they’ve given to their country. This film shares their heartfelt perspectives on what it felt like to be on the proverbial front lines as a Black man or woman in the U.S. military – including during segregated service; the draft; the nation’s shifting views on those who serve; and the additional challenges faced by women who serve. Darwell, along with one of the “Black Uniform” ”stars,” Tuskegee Airman veteran Dr. Eugene Richardson, will be in Wilmington for the screening on Thursday, September 21 at 6PM at Penn Cinema Riverfront. There will be a Q&A following the screening, featuring Darwell and local veterans as well as an opening night reception.
