Description
Inspired by an 1869 essay written by a free Black journalist and educator named William J. Wilson, this exhibition takes visitors on a tour of his imagined gallery of drawings, paintings, sculptures, and objects that represent Black life the United States and across the Diaspora, as interpreted by curator and historian Jonathan Michael Square. Winterthur will present presents this gallery for the first time ever, using objects from the collections to represent Wilsonโs displays.
