It’s Arts Season, folks, and Dewey the Art Dog and I are looking forward to kicking it off in a big way, not the least of which INcludes attending the Brandywine Festival of the Arts this weekend! Want more exciting September ArtStuff? Here are my top picks this month #inWilm:

John Moran’s American Idols
Now – Sunday, October 26 | Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts
American Idols is a thought-provoking exhibition by artist John Moran and an INcredible pick for history buffs! On display are glass sculptures of 43 presidential leaders, all recast as reality TV stars – who doesn’t want to be one?

Edward Loper Jr.’s Art Exhibit Opening
Friday, September 12 – 5pm-8pm | Darley Arts Center
Darley Arts Center, in its newly revitalized Claymont neighborhood, welcomes the work of a true visual arts master – Edward Loper Jr. – with a special opening on Friday, September 12th. Live music by guitarist Chris Braddock & pianist Paul Boris, plus an open reception, complement this very special event!

Jesus Christ Superstar
Friday, September 12 – Saturday, September 27 | Wilmington Drama League
Wilmington Drama League’s 81st season is bursting at its musical seams, and it all starts with a more contemporary and modern version of the hit classic Jesus Christ Superstar that still stays true to it’s original score and story.

Melomanie’s 21st Anniversary Concert & CD Release Party
Saturday, September 13 – 7pm | World Cafe Live at The Queen
Known for their “provocative pairings of early and contemporary works,” the ensemble celebrates their 21st Anniversary Concert & CD Release Party on Saturday, Sept. 13 in the picturesque Olympia Room of World Café Live at the Queen. Favorite works, guest artists and tracks from their new CD, Excursions, will be featured, complemented with champagne and desserts.

Love Letters

DTC’s season brings a little something for everyone – love, loss and laughter with a dash of Broadway sparkle. The season operner, Love Letters, starring Michael Learned and Daniel Davis, proves what divides us is rarely as powerful as what connects us, and love usually comes when you least expect it. Subscriptions are now on sale for DTC’s five-show season.

Heroes and Heroines
Friday, September 19 – 7:30pm | The Grand
Delaware Symphony Orchestra’s season opener brings us Beethoven’s Fifth Piano Concerto – Emperor and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherezade, both which inflect traditional forms with new, INventive perspectives. It’s not too late to subscribe and save to their 2014-2015 Season which features five Classic Series performances and four Chamber Series programs.

Classical Cafe
Select Saturdays thru December 13 | The Music School of Delaware
The Music School fulfills every musical taste, starting this month. The monthly informal Classical Café (starting Saturday, Sept. 27), led by Dr. Holly Roadfeldt, encourages dynamic discussion on an array of musical topics and is only $10 to attend (plus, you get coffee & pastries).
