We’re all about local and INdependent here at IN Wilmington and that is certainly no exception when it comes to food! Did you know there are TEN Farmers Markets happening each week in the Wilmington area alone? Yes, ten. So there’s a good chance that no matter where you live, work or play, one of them is sure to be a convenient (not to mention #INbudget!) way to #DigIN to FRESH #inWilm!

Delaware Avenue Farmers’ Market
Every Tuesday from 5:00-7:30pm at the corner of Delaware Avenue and Scott Street
Though this is one of the smaller markets in town, it’s still a great place to pick up your essentials early in the week. The Farm Stuff is on site offering heirloom and regional varieties of your fruits, veggies, herbs and flowers (follow them on Facebook for delicious recipes!); Jack’s Jams comes with their artisanal jams, pickles and sauerkraut and Baretta’s Soap Factory has all of your fine soap and body product needs!

Downtown Wilmington Farmer’s Market
Every Wednesday from 10am-2pm IN Rodney Square
This Downtown lunchtime Market run by our friends at Downtown Visions offers a seriously impressive selection of produce, live plants, ready-made food, artisanal crafts and beauty products, and even a chance to get to know more about some of your neighborhood non-profits! A few vendors vary from week to week, but the variety of offerings is always vast and never, ever disappointing. Whether you’re looking to bulk up your refrigerator or pantry (I just stocked up on gourmet pasta!), grab a bite for lunch (enough to choose from to meet EVERY dietary restriction), a gift for a friend or simply to get out an enjoy some free entertainment, you simply cannot go wrong making a Wednesday lunchtime visit to Rodney Square a regular occurrence.

Winterthur Farm Stand
Every Thursday from 1:30-5:30pm in front of the Winterthur Museum Store at the Cottage
This market was originally held on Saturdays and was a weekly guarantee for my friends and I. Since it’s move to Thursdays this year, I haven’t been able to make it out quite as much due to my work schedule and I can tell you that has been a major disappointment. So if you’re IN the area, I strongly encourage you to go check it out! Aside from the obvious fresh produce, this is an excellent place to pick up farm fresh meats and cheeses, local honey, breads and my personal favorite, mushroom goodness straight from Kennett (their Mushroom Soup is to die for!).

Cool Spring Farmers Market
Every Thursday from 5pm-7pm in Cool Spring Park
This market is hands down one of my favorites, the atmosphere is simply unbeatable. Gable Music Ventures programs the weekly entertainment, which this year spans everything from the Reggae sounds of The Full Carbon Get Up, the Americana/blues grooves of Old Baltimore Speedway and the Italian-INfluenced tunes of The Late Saints to #ALLinFun Kids’ Nights nights offering music by performers like Mystic Drumz and Nature Jams (complete with family-friendly activities!). There’s a group of regular attendees you’ll find grabbing ready-made food and relaxing on blankets or chairs while they #DigIN and listen to the tunes as shoppers around them scoop up all of their needs – everything from fresh bread to homemade pastas and desserts. It’s another one where you simply can’t go wrong.

12th & Brandywine Urban Farm Market
Every Friday from 8-11am on the corner of 12th & Brandywine Streets
Though this market may be smaller in comparison to some, I love it because it’s the only one that’s grown 100% in an urban Wilmington farm! The 12th & Brandywine Urban Farm and Community Garden grows fresh fruits and veggies right IN the 11th Street Bridge Neighborhood. The location and early start is perfect for those who work downtown but have busy schedules that might not allow them to visit other markets with ease – plan an extra 20 minutes into your morning and swing through on your way to work!

Fresh Friday Farmers Market
Every Friday from 9am-4pm at Nemours Plaza
This market is another excellent option for Downtown workers and the reason we love it oh so much is it happens YEAR ROUND! Enough said. Fresh, local, delicious produce… YEAR ROUND!

Carousel Park Farmer’s Market
Every Friday from 3-7pm at the Carousel Park Equestrian Center
This medium-sized market has everything you need and is a great way to stock up for the weekend festivities! Sunset View Farm and Hillside Acre Farm have your fresh produce covered, Rosehill Plantery is there for all of your vegetable and flower plant needs, Maiale Deli & Salmeria is on hand offering specialty hand-crafted sausages, Soaps Garden and Cardinham Killigrew have craft-made luxury skin care products and Smokey’s Brick Oven Pizza and Dino’s Ice Cream Truck are on standby in case you get hungry on the spot!

Grace on Concord Farmers Market
Every Friday from 3-7pm at Grace Episcopal Church
The newest market to enter this list is perfect for all of our North Wilmington readers! Conveniently located right on Route 202, Grace offers a nice variety of fresh produce, baked goods, ready-made food and local handmade vendors. They plan to support local charities, offer theme weeks and provide live entertainment as they continue to grow!

Rockwood Farmers Market
Every Friday from 3-7pm at Rockwood Park
Sometimes it’s the little things in life that get us through! My favorite thing about the Rockwood Market is being able to stock up on my favorite soy-based candles from the Upper Crust Candle Co., oh, and the homemade mustards (and jams, chutneys and pickles) from Backyard Jams and Jellies, and the fact that my sweet tooth is satiated by Kas Cake Emporium… Okay, I’m no good at picking favorites, everything about this market simply rocks!
