Join the Delaware Historical Society this Saturday, February 28th, #inWilm for the Forging Faith, Building Freedom book launch from 2-4pm at the Christopher Ward Reading Room in the Research Library located at 505 N. Market Street. The book, written by Dr. Constance J. Cooper and Dr. Lewis V. Baldwin, started as an online exhibition, that is still currently accessible, but has progressed into published form, with their Forging Faith book including information not available on their website.

The goal of the Forging Faith online exhibition, and now printed book, is to provide the public with information on African American faith experiences in Delaware and how they influenced religion throughout the United States. It focuses specifically on the time period from 1800-1980, almost 200 years of drastically changing history. This book shows an aspect of Delawareโ€™s own historical story that is often not brought to light. Through the creation of churches many African Americans in Delaware were able to begin finding both equality and freedom.

The Delaware Historical Society wants to bring this extraordinary part of Delawareโ€™s history alive through the Forging Faith, Building Freedom book launch. There will be two special guests joining the free launch, authors Dr. Constance J. Cooper, chief curator at the Delaware Historical Society and Dr. Lewis V. Baldwin, Emeritus Professor of Religious Studies at Vanderbilt University. They will be available to talk about the many discussion-worthy topics the book holds along with providing a short program. The book will be available at the event for a discount price; $10.50 softbound and $16 hardbound. In addition there will be a chance to get your copy signed by the authors, as well as, of course, light refreshments.
